Pre-Post Conference Tourism

There are several places in Argentina worth visiting. They go from jungle regions (too hot in summer) to arid places, both hot and colds. The main link for looking at these places is:

 Welcome to Argentina

At these time of the year I would recommend either the:

  1. The mountains and lakes at the south: the area around Bariloche or San Martin de los Andes. From Bariloche there are many tours, some are just bus tours, some, like the hiking to the refuge at the Tronador peak are quite demanding, but incredibly beautiful.

  2. The desert area at the south, along the see shore. The base point there is Puerto Madryn. This is a very nice area with lot of fauna to watch, in particular at this time of the year you can spot the killer wales hunting small see lions in the Peninsula de Valdes.

Other important attractions are the Tren de las nubes in the north-west corner of Argentina, the Cataratas del Iguazu, on the north-east corner, the Buenos Aires city, etc.

You can fly to all these places, but also keep in mind that there are very good buses, with individual seats/beds, toilets, air-condition, movies, etc. which are very cheap and are an excellent way of knowing the countryside and its people.

Mid Conference Tourism

On the weekend we can organize some touristic activities:

  1. For those looking for culture, we can organize a visit to Cordoba (city). The links to look for things in Cordoba are:

  2. For those looking for nature we can organize a hike to the Champaqui, the highest peak of the Cordoba mountain range, it has about 3000 mts. There are several possibilities for that hike, a one day easy tour which start at a nearby peak which one can reach by car, a one day very hard one. My favorite one is a three day one sleeping at a nice place in between. It is easy in body demand and allows to see several nice places along the way. Those who want to take it need hiking boots, a backpack and a sleeping bag (probably can also be rented here). Please let me know if you want to participate on this hike so that I can book for places at the refuge. One of the links for these alternatives is:
